WOW! What a fantastic night at the Nelson last Saturday 21st. Congratulations to Bob Dave and Gavin of DNA and all the performers who paid tribute to our son. You all did a great job...Andy would have loved it. You.....and all his friends and supporters have given us strength as we come to terms with our loss. Throughout the emotional evening there was a feeling of mutual respect love and happiness as we all remembered and rocked together. Thank you to everyone who supported the event.

Its four weeks today since we lost our wonderful son...four weeks of grief and yet great pride. All the heartfelt and complimentary messages have helped to ease the pain we feel. Thank you all so much. What a legacy for our lovely courageous grandchildren...his children... Nikita and Ricky.
Special thanks to Dave, Rob and Gavin too for the picture album of Andy and
dna gigging, we will treasure it always.
See you all at The Nelson on 21 st.

Andy would be amazed and grateful for all your messages he will have had no idea how valued he was by so many people. Our family is shocked and stunned by what has happened and the gap he leaves in our lives will never be filled. We miss him so much already and always will. I am so proud of Julie, Nikita and Ricky for the way they are coping and I know that the support you have all shown through your messages is much appreciated.

Hi Andy, anything I say could only mirror the thoughts, words and feelings of all that has been said, so, well, by previous posts. The words of all just show the high regard in which you were held. It was a great shock to us all and our thoughts are with your family at this most difficult of times. Andy, you will certainly be missed on the playing circuit, but, of course, most of all by those closest to you. Cheers to you Andy, one of the good guys... Pete & the QED crew.

The news of Andy's sudden death shocked us all. For all those that knew him, i'm sure you will agree with me that he was one of the nicest guys you could possibly meet, with one of the best singing voices. Andy was a star, a gentleman and a friend and will be missed so much. My heartfelt thoughts are with his friends and family and of course with Bob, Gavin and Dave. We love you Andy, for and on behalf of the past and present bar staff at the Lord Nelson, Teresa xxxxx

How do you confuse the DNA bass player? well theres two ways. The first is to tell him that a tune is in 5/4 time, that always gets him. The second is to send him to Singapore on business. I swear that somebody has robbed a whole day from me somewhere along the line, I know for sure that I have missed out on at least one meal. I think that somebody has also turned the thermostat up to max. Its almost as hot and sweaty as gav gets during a gig, now thats going some. Our fame has not reached these parts as none of the bars are offering us any bookings, just have to save it for our favourite haunts around Dorset. Ta Ta for now from the far east correspondant.

Hi Joy. I'll field this one for Bob. We're not playing at the Nelson on the 31st now. Come and see us at The George in Poole on Fri 6th April though. The Livewire is quite often wrong - not their fault - our gig dates are constantly moving around. Check out the 'Where and When' page for the most up to date listing of gigs. cheers thanksverymuch ta!

Bob - how can you play so damn good when your fingers are falling off in the sub-zero weather!? And, how come I have an amp like yours and you make it sound awesome and mine sounds pants? Just putting the last Ibanez on the fire with the Guy as we speak.
Well done boyz.

So sorry about your wasted journey Al. Check out the news page - we had to cancel that gig coz Dave couldn't make it. We did play at the HOG's gig at Swanage the previous night - you should have seen Christian play his mouth-organ!
Anyway, the last gig for a while is on Saturday at O'Neills. Come and dance to the happy sounds!

The evening didn't look too good. Clouds had rumbled in from the West and the scent of rain was on the air. Nevertheless, with Livewire and Th' Hadvertiser listing DNA at the Manor Arms last evening, we set out. As ever, the stage coach from Upton to Burton was a little late, so we stepped on the thing slightly damp when it arrived. It was late due to the horse feed not getting through at the Quay, bloody pirates from the Nelson hi-jacking it again! As we rounded the corner at Longham, always a trouble spot, and this time we were not to be disappointed - Apaches began riding alongside the coach, and with arrows thudding into the sides, the driver got one in the back. Despite the cowboy in the shotgun seat doing the right thing and using his shotgun and killing off a few. Doc Holliday happened to be on the coach and brought out his Colt 45's and knocked off some more by the time we passed The Horns Inn. As Christchurch approached, despite the arrow being removed from the driver, (with a lot of teeth-gritting and ooing and arring), we headed for Burton - intrepid as ever. Outside the Manor Arms the horse's coats were steaming, it'd been a long, humid, and hard ride. Out-back of the Manor, bods were unloading amps and guitars and stuff; and Jane suggested either DNA had a road crew, or we 'd cocked up, or maybe they had? It was some band named Shoe String Blues, and even tuning up they were too loud, even for a hardened Motorhead fan used to 130 db. These guys, and they were getting on a bit too, were sounding like World War III in a telepohone box already. Just before they started, we went outside. They began, and we couldn't hear ourselves speak from out there, let alone inside. More Indian's, Sioux this time, were gathering along the nearby railway line; obviously this band had annoyed them, too. The Stage Coach was due for the return trip. Maybe the Manor had changed hands? The bar people were not familiar, nor overly friendly, (as we were used to!), so we drunk-up, headed out, and boarded the Coach again. Fortunately, the Sioux began attacking the Manor and not the coach, and we rattled away, not quite in a cloud of dust with a hearty Hi-Ho Silver (Lining), as it has rained and layed it down. The journey back was solemn, we'd missed our heroes! But the coach stopped at the Derby's Corner, and as we'd been round a few going out to the Manor and returning, we though we'd corner in there and have another beer. So, with the gigs up-to-date on the DNA website, and previous gigs erased, did both we and the press get it wrong? Maybe we'll never know? Or maybe someone will reveal the mystery of the Manor Arms gig that wasn't?

Gavin, Dave, Bob and Andy too, Whippin' up their driving hard rock brew.
If you ain't seen 'em, you gotta go, Through rain and wind and even snow, With a will you'll always find a way, For a rocking good night with DNA!

Hey Dawn! You took long enough to leave a message. Hope you didn't feel too guilty about deserting us in the second set and going to a nightclub instead!
Just so you know, the gig at the Star this Saturday (11th March) ISN'T ON! They had a double booking so we're having the weekend off.
Come to the Salisbury Arms on the 25th though - and buy a t-shirt of your fave band!!

Hello you rock and roll tarts! Come down to the George tonight as we're playing. We'll be doing some new ones! One of which we only played for the first time last night - so could go badly wrong which would be dreadfully embarrasing, but very entertaining to the casual bystander! Also, come and see if we're handing out any free t-shirts!! (we won't be though).

Right, I've now got some DNA t-shirts printed up and they look great (even tho I say so myself!). E-mail me and I'll send you a piccy of what they look like! They're double-sided with all the 2006 gigdates on the back so you never have to keep hold of another beer-stained crumpled flier again! I've got 'em in black, white, and lots of different colours and you can get one from little old me at any gig (why do I feel like Del-boy?) and they're very attractively priced! I've only got 15 left though, so if you want one, buy one quick!

Look, I've put 'www.dnalive.co.uk' on the front of my bass drum, on all the speakers and monitors and it's on the fliers that I scatter all around the place and still no one is leaving us any messages! Jeezus Kapeezus!
Anyway, thanks to the DNA groupies for showing up at the George on Fri night, it was the first time we played there any we thought it was fun. Next gig is at 'Ye olde Star' in Christchurch on 10th Feb (no I've never been there either!) please write something-anything, it's alful lonesome on this messageboard!

Hi Guys, great gig at the manor a couple of weeks ago thoroughly enjoyed it. Also like to say a huge thanks to Andy for standing in with us and fronting Stone Cold Sober these last few weeks. You did us proud Andy! We really appreciate it, also a huge thanks to the band for allowing us to hi-jack his talents to help keep us on the road in our hour of need. .................. Thanks again Nick, Stevie & Terry. Stone Cold Sober.

Thanks for the dependably great gig reviews from Alan too (they're getting longer every time!) and thanks for your support too Maxine. Great dancing BTW!

Hi guys, thanks for a fantastic night on Saturday at the Manor Arms. As per expectations you put on a another great show . One song I sould like see added to your repetoire is "Freebird" by Lynard Skinner - I think you would cover this exceptionally well.
|
|
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
|
|
|
Accustomed as they are to other venues, (smokey dives, Gav?), on the local pub-rock circuit, it was plain to see the band were more than up for this one. The Manor Arms, with its extra space and amiable landlord, is always a great gig for them. The place quickly yet comfortably packed itself with eager rock fans early on, and crowd enthusiasm always feeds back to the band, hence, mutual euphoria reigns. Gavin, that solid mainstay on the drum stool that he is, has to be one of the best drummers in the area - plenty of attack! Bassist, Dave, fell into an excellent groove and thoroughly enjoyed every note he played. Lead guitarist, Bob, and guitar/vocalist, Andy have a great rapport going between them, and as a unit, they were right on the button tonight. Jane and I brought along an aspiring guitarist in 9 year-old granddaughter, Lauren, for her first live gig,and along with fellow DNA fan club member, Pam, and the enthusiastic crowd, we had one hell of an evening. A couple of the guys from Stone Cold Sober, and the drummer/vocalist from Blame George had come along, too - always great to see and know there is a bond of respect between them all. A great set, as ever, with a Stereophonics number added in for good measure amongst the favourites. But the moment I always wait for is DNA's showstopper in The Cult's 'She Sells Sanctuary.' Bob strolled out to the middle of the dancefloor to begin his whammy-bar intro into this classic, and stayed there playing, and along with Andy, ended up sitting in two rare vacant seats, (they were getting drinks at the bar), to play and sing the song - laid-back or what? And it has to be said, moments like these just cannot be bought. Rock on boys, take no prisoners at the Nelson!
|
|

Stepping Stones gig last night taught the band how to peel an orange in their pocket. Precious little space before, now, ridiculous! Fine for a solo guitar player / singer, but a band? No. The proverbial cat could not have been swung. Nevertheless, our infallible foursome made the best of it. And even though this time Jane and I could only stay for the 1st set, that shot of DNA has allayed our jittering until the next time. Well done lads, Motorhead played gigs like that, once!
|

Hi guys. Just got in from the Stepping Stones gig. Well played all and congrats on that seamless guitar change mid song. Hope the new corner set-up didn't deafen you all like it did me last time I played there. See you again when I next have a night off. Matt (Icarus)

Saw you for the first time at the Manor Arms on Saturday night. Well you certainly gave Live 8 a run for their money - you were brilliant.
|
|
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
|
|
|
Indeed, like Susan says, last night was awesome. The Manor is a knockout venue, almost home to the boys now, and despite Live 8, there was a thumping good crowd raising hell yet again! Several songs I hadn't heard before, (some new to the set), like Sweet Home Alabama, White Wedding, and the legendary Buck Rogers. Angel, dedicated to Bob's mum, who was there quietly rockin' and rollin,' was a great choice in convincing her the years of 'turn it down,Bob,' when he was learning his art, were more than worthwhile. Cracking, lads, just cracking!

Wooaarrgghh! Another superb gig at Broadstone's Stepping Stones last evening. Great set by the band as ever, their memorable rock and punk covers keeping the crowd drinking and the pub full of punters for the grateful landlord. Scaled down slightly due to restricted space, the band made the most of their gig, and we all had a great time. It was Nurse Rachel's 34th birthday, too, and she and her friends were more than pleased they celebrated it at a rocker of a DNA gig!

What a gig at the Manor Arms last evening, (16th April '05). A good sized crowd when we arrived, an amazing undertow of rock 'n' roll excitement was already running through the place. It has always been said the first set is for the crowd, and the second set for the band - as by then the punters have had a few drinks and loosened up, so the band can let rip as the booze has taken effect. Not that DNA need their stalwart fans to be inebriated to enjoy their music, of course, but the second set just took off!
The Cult's 'She Sells Sanctuary' is always a favourite for me, and with the new addition of Robbie's 'Angels,' (the crowd taking over on vocals), it's a great choice, and a splendid opportunity for Bob to play some slide guitar. Rock on! Local News Radio reported that each time a song ended, and Danny Gray bellowed his magnanimous approval, Poole Bridge opened and closed!!!

Alan,
Thanks very much for your support. After having been to your website, I have a tremendous amount of respect for anyone daring to get that close to Motorhead (especially Philthy 'animal' Taylor - AKA 'The Hammer'. Respect Due!
Hope to see you in the future - We're looking forward to some brilliant Summer gigs in our favourite old haunt 'The Nelson' on Poole quay.
Cheers for the kind words!

DNA live at the Manor Arms, Burton, 26/02/05 was another great night in the company of this talented local band. If you haven't been to see them yet, check out the set list and get to their next gig - they're an absolute must for every live music fan. Whilst I'm here, I may as well plug my own website which might well be of interest if you'd like to read some Bournemouth area based crime thriller/horror stories: www.alanburridge.freeuk.com You might like to read a book or two on the evenings when DNA aren't playing dat dirdy ole ruck 'n' roll musik.
